The digital artwork "Skating Fun" shows a vivid scene of a winter day on Amsterdam's canals, under a brilliant blue, cloudless sky. This modern interpretation of a painting by Hendrick Avercamp combines classic atmosphere with contemporary details. The image is filled with skating people of all ages: children make pirouettes, teenagers race past each other, and older couples glide across the ice hand in hand. Some stand and talk, while others along the side put on their skates.
On both sides of the canal are characteristic Amsterdam canal houses, recognisable by their narrow gables, bell gables and large windows. The colours of the buildings are rich but subtly modernised, with a mix of traditional brick and some bright accents in window frames and doors. To the right of the image are some houseboats, adding to the Amsterdam atmosphere.
The artwork exudes a sense of movement and gaiety, with light reflections on the ice highlighting the clarity of the sky. Unlike Avercamp's historical scenes, the skaters' clothing and accessories are contemporary: coloured jackets, hats with pompoms, and smartphones used to take selfies. Yet the composition remains true to the old master, with plenty of small, humorous details to discover. "Skating Fun" brings to life a nostalgic winter tradition in a sparkling, digital jacket.
