I grew up in Bergeijk. Partly due to the fact that I have been hard of hearing since my early childhood, I was rather visually oriented. In this way, drawing became a means for me to let myself 'hear'. I am completely self-taught.
After years of hardly putting anything on paper, the death of my father was the moment I decided to start painting. For me it is a medium that constantly challenges me and forces me to empathize, reflect and take distance. Each work involves the vulnerability of the soul and the (im)ability to capture it, not to mention the power and beauty of emotions and nature. Still, every time I try to visualize what I don't hear but do feel. During the last years I also make illustrations with pastelcrayon, ecoline and watercolours.
