I collect impressions on my many trips to Europe, America, the Caribbean and Africa. I don't paint on location, but take lots of photos and video recordings that I later use as models. Not only spectacular buildings such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, but also everyday objects that appear everywhere inspire my paintings; for example, I paint garden chairs standing in New York's Bryant Park in winter.
I discover motifs in the most diverse places and then realise them in unusual ways.
I combine different materials, paint with acrylics, oils and chalks, often adding new accents with collage elements. I set clear colour accents, often painting with very strong colours.
I also experiment with monotypes. The one-off prints are based on photos of landscapes, images of animals or portraits. Sometimes I reassemble the one-off prints or parts of them. The result is unusual or unexpected structures.
Landscapes are reduced to their basic forms and reinterpreted in a painterly way. At the moment I am particularly fascinated by the dune landscapes of North Holland.
