Many years ago, I went to Finland in autumn. I visited a national park in Lapland.
People who visit Lapland can be divided into two groups.
The first group of people visit Lapland once and then leave it at that.
A second group is gripped by what is called 'Lapland fever'. This fever motivates people to go to Lapland every autumn and enjoy the beautiful and colourful nature.
I belong to the second group.
And so several stays in Lapland followed.
I learnt Finnish, even though it is admittedly a rather strange language. And I began to paint.
In my paintings I try to capture the beauty of nature in Lapland. Because the nature there really is 'ihana kaunis', as the Finns would say: marvellously beautiful.
