Lovelocks of Amsterdam on canvas, poster, wallpaper and ArtFrame by Floris Kok

LOVELOCKS; LOVE OR BURDEN Lovelocks (love locks) are padlocks, with or without text or the names of loved ones, that are attached to a bridge as a sign of eternal love. The origins of this ritual are unclear, but it has become all the rage since the publication of the novel Ho voglia di te by Fredirico Moccia (2006) and the film adaptation in 2007. In the novel we see two lovers perform this ritual at the Ponte Milvio in Rome. In addition to Rome and Paris, this ritual now takes place worldwide and Amsterdam is also popular. In the meantime, an entire economy has emerged to facilitate demand. This phenomenon seemed to me to be a good subject to illustrate the problems of mass tourism in the city center of Amsterdam. Ultimately, I was loaned about 4,000 cut-out locks from the municipality, from which I made the selection for this series.
