In the Arizona desert lies the Lost Dutchman S.P. The park owes its name to the gold digger Jacob Waltz who discovered a gold mine here, but died without revealing the location. It turned out that Jacob Waltz was not a Dutchman but a German. The park is located at the beginning of the Apache Trail, about 45 minutes east of Phoenix. The park lies at the foot of the Superstition Mountains and the various hikes through the area all give you a beautiful view of the mountains. The most beautiful hike is the treasure loop, you actually walk continuously along the foot of the mountains through a beautiful area full of cacti. Most people who visit the park do this during their drive on the Apache Trail. The Apache Trail is a partly unpaved tourist road of 40 miles through the rugged landscape of the Superstition Mountains and along various old gold towns.
