Willem van de Velde (II), A ship on the high seas in a flying storm, known as 'The gust of wind'
A large ship is in distress. A gust of wind caused the mast to break and one of the sails has been knocked loose. It is a seventy-gun British warship. Willem van de Velde II entered the service of the English royal family in 1672, together with his father, who was also a marine painter. He made this painting and the accompanying canvas 'The Cannon Shot' in England.
Willem Steelink Sr. (Amsterdam, Holland, Netherlands April 30, 1826 - August 3, 1913) was a Dutch engraver, etcher and painter.
Steelink specialized in etchings and engravings of Amsterdam cityscapes and portraits of Amsterdammers
He is counted among the late followers of the Hague School. In 1857 he was a member of Arti et Amicitiae.
