Sunrise, more correctly sunrise, is when the sun appears above the horizon in the east. The sun has already risen when the first part of the solar circle emerges, making the day slightly longer than the night, as night does not begin until the sun is completely down. Refraction in the atmosphere makes the sun appear higher than it actually is, and reflection makes it light even before the sun becomes visible, the dawn, which is why sunrise does not equate to the moment when it becomes light. At that moment there is a dawn, because dawn is a transition from night to sunrise, this is a moment when the sun is not up while it is getting light. The beginning of the day is often seen as the time when the sun rises. A rooster often crows when it sees the sun, to signal that the day has begun.
