I took this photo during an unforgettable trip to Norway in winter 2020. What you see is a small, atmospheric village just above Tromsø, hidden among snow-capped mountains and bordering a quiet fjord. The brightly lit houses almost seem to glow against the deep blue of the Scandinavian winter night, while their warm light reflects on the mirror-smooth water. An imposing mountain towers up in the distance, like a silent sentinel over the village.
What makes this image so special to me is the tranquillity and magic it exudes. As if time stands still for a moment. The atmosphere is almost fairytale-like - a combination of serene silence, cold and warmth at the same time. You feel the cosiness of the houses, while knowing that outside the inclement wind is blowing along the mountain sides. This photo reminds me of that unique contrast.
The inspiration for this photo comes directly from my fascination with the Far North and the play of light in the dark winters there. I travelled alone, with my camera, looking for moments of pure stillness. This image was one of those: unexpected and magical.
For an interior, this work brings a sense of space, tranquillity and wonder. It fits perfectly with people who love travelling, nature, silence or the Scandinavian landscape. Or for anyone who dreams of an escape from busy everyday life.
This picture has been carefully edited to balance the natural blue of the evening and the warm light of the houses, without losing reality.
