White smoke flows from the red petals of the ranunculus. by Marjolijn van den Berg

"Witte rook stroomt van de rode blaadjes van de Ranonkel" is a macro photograph of a beautiful red ranunculus, whose petals are already nicely open. A white veil of smoke flows over these fragile petals. It flows over the petals and then falls down, creating a beautiful white pattern against the petrol blue background.
It has been (and still is) quite a quest to get the right smoke to flow over the petals. (Or rather, the kind of thin, fleeting smoke that I want to use in other photo's).
It may seem that this photo was taken with a long exposure time because of the flowing smoke, but this is not the case. The smoke had a beautiful thickness that created this effect in a photo with a relatively short exposure time. When taking this photograph, I opted for a relatively shallow depth of field. I focused on the leaves and the white smoke on the left-hand side to emphasise this area. The shallow depth of field gradually blurs everything in front of and behind this area, creating a sense of depth and tranquillity.
This photograph has an exciting yet pleasant feel to it. It has something calm about it, but also something imaginative and magical. This work would look beautiful in many different spaces and interior styles.
