The Vrouwgeestmolen in Alphen aan den Rijn is an octagonal wooden polder mill built in 1797 and used to drain the Vrouwgeest polder until 1968. The type is a ground sail mill. The polder owned the Vrouwgeestmolen until 1970 when it was sold to the Rijnlandse Molenstichting. The mill is now used voluntarily to drain the Vrouwgeest polder. In this picture with red poppies and a typical Dutch cloudy sky, the windmill is a true Dutch icon. A very Dutch picture.
