The village of Vík í Mýrdal (in Iceland simply referred to as Vík) is the most southerly town of Iceland. Vík lies on a jet-black beach with to its west the Reynisdrangar, black basalt columns (remnants of volcanoes) 66 metres high, in the sea. Tradition has it that they are trolls who were surprised by the first rays of the sun when they tried to pull a ship ashore.
