Gerardus Johannes Bos, to Tieleman Cato Bruining,
The Breestraat in the Dutch city of Leiden is one of the most important streets in the city. The street is part of the southern dike along the Nieuwe Rijn; upstream this dike is called Hogewoerd and downstream Noordeinde.
Already in the Middle Ages, this street was one of the centres of settlement. The city hall, with the longest renaissance facade of the Netherlands, is situated in the middle of the street, as well as the Blauwe Steen, which used to play a role in the administration of justice.
Here, the street is set in a wintery cityscape with an arse or sleigh pulled by a horse or foal.
