"View of Dresden" is an interpretation of the view of the old town of Dresden based on the oil painting "Dresden from the right bank of the Elbe below the Augustus Bridge" by the Venetian painter Bernardo Bellotto, also known as Canaletto. The painter's original can be seen in the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Dresden. The viewpoint of the viewer in this work by Max Steinwald, created in 2023, is similar to the viewpoint of Canaletto when he painted his famous work in 1748. This view of Dresden's Old Town shows, as in Canaletto's work, the Augustus Bridge, the Church of Our Lady, the Italian Village, the Catholic Court Church, the Dresden Castle and the Hausmann Tower, seen from the Neustädter Elbufer below the Hotel Bellevue in 2022. The painting is not a copy of Canaletto's work, but the artist deliberately uses approximately the same point of view for his work, which shows the beautiful backdrop of Dresden's Old Town with sunset atmosphere and strong colors and contrasts.
