Do the 'primeval Dutch' tulips come from the Netherlands? No, they don't. The origin of the tulip lies in Asia, in countries like Iran and Afghanistan. Tulips also occur naturally in North Africa and Southern Europe. The bulbs need cold nights and a cold winter to grow and in these areas the climate meets the optimal growth for the tulip. Eventually the flower reached the Ottoman Empire (now Turkey). There the tulip gets the name we know now: it is derived from the local name for a turban, tulipa in Latin. Around 1550 the rich Sultan Süleyman lived in the Ottoman Empire. His palace gardens were full of the most beautiful tulips, because tulips were held in high esteem. The sultan was therefore very frugal with his flowers.
" It makes me happy to create memories "
I love to photograph in the French or Dutch countryside. Forests, countryside or by the sea. But also cities, towns and villages (especially in France) are my favorites.
Best regards ! Yvonne..
