When I took this photo, it was a quiet moment between past and present. The towers of the cathedral rose up in front of me, dark and mighty, their intricate details almost unreal against the grey sky. At the same time, I was mesmerised by the bridge - its solid steel, suffused with warm light, suddenly seemed alive. It was as if the arches were breathing, as if they wanted to carry on the stories of the city. The contrast between the rigid dignity of the cathedral and the dynamic power of the bridge immediately fascinated me. At that moment, I sensed the connection between the old and the new, between a firm stand and constant movement. My aim was to capture precisely this feeling: the stillness, the strength and the quiet dialogue between two buildings that complement each other without crowding each other out. For me, this picture tells of the soul of the city - and of the brief, silent amazement I felt when I pressed the shutter release.
