About "The symbiosis between humans and animals"

About the artwork

In a bathroom with old-fashioned green tiles stands a curious creature: it has the head of an ostrich, the body of a human in a dress, and the long legs of a flamingo. On one leg a trainer, the other a trainer is inhabited by a desert rat. The animal appears to be looking straight into the mirror, but what we see is not a reflection - the animal is nl standing with its back to the mirror so both the animal and its reflection show the front. A subtle play of optical deception that sows confusion.

The work evokes a world where boundaries between humans and animals blur. The absurdity feels recognisable: in an age when pets wear clothes, are driven around in chariots and are given almost human roles, this hybrid figure is perhaps less strange than it seems at first sight after all.

"The symbiosis between humans and animals" is a depiction of wonder, but also of alienation. Why do we want to humanise animals? Where does the animal end, and where does the human begin? And who is actually watching whom here?

The work invites questions rather than answers. Perhaps that is exactly the intention

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers. Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
