About the artwork

- animal close up of an beautiful Duck Father in the Botanical Garden outside of Berlin- the capture were taken on the 22th of May 2018 with the Nikon D90 and an Nikkor lens 80.0-200.0mm/f2.8

I discovered this fascinating animal portrait of a Greylag Goose Gander in the Botanical Garden Blankenfelde-Pankow during my spring walk on 22 May 2018. The spontaneous photographic shot was taken with my Nikon D90 and a Nikkor lens (80.0mm- 200.0mm /f2.8 ). I had to react quickly as the male was already spreading his wings to protect his young goslings.

The most typical goose in our fields and meadows is the greylag goose. They also feel at home in parks and ponds these days. When they fly over us, sometimes in large groups, they can be easily heard by their loud, drawn-out calls. If it spots a walker, you can hear how one goose warns the whole flock and then all the birds watch you sceptically. It is the most common goose in Europe and the ancestor of our domestic geese.

Appearance
The grey goose is very compact and one of our larger geese. Its body is grey and brown, with a slightly lighter neck and head. The strong beak is orange to pink in colour. The legs are matt pink. In flight, the broad white band on the fanned-out tail is recognisable. The underwings are bicoloured light grey and dark brown.
