Close to the famous Skogafoss on the south coast of Iceland is another waterfall: the Kvernufoss. It is much less known, and also much less visited, but no less beautiful. The water of the small Kverna River falls forty metres here and then flows for a while through a narrow gorge before it ends up, via the lowlands, in the Atlantic Ocean . A winding path leads through the gorge to the waterfall.
This digital painting is an adaptation of a photograph taken on a still evening, when it was already starting to get a little dim. The path, the stream, the rocks, they all focus the viewer's attention on the Kvernufoss. Let your eyes wander over the image: they keep coming back to the falling water.
