The Stadsmolen is a corn mill on the Molenstraat in Axel (nowadays municipality of Terneuzen). It is a round brick rack mill dating from 1750, covered with roofing leather, which replaced a wooden mill that burned down in 1747. The mill towers above its surroundings, partly because it is built on a bastion.
The Stadsmolen was in operation until 1911. In that year the mill was disassembled and the milling was mechanised. The fuselage burned down in the fifties of the 20th century and remained aimless. In the 80's the plan was made to rebuild the mill, which finally started in 1998. The restoration took two years and many parts were renewed. The stairs to the attics were made wider and safer than in most other mills, with a view to visitors.
