The green heart of the Allgäu Alps

by Walter G. Allgöwer

From the Fellhorn, the view sweeps across a landscape that looks as though the earth had sculpted its boldest dreams from stone and light. At the heart of the panorama rises the Höfats, that unique mountain formation whose steep, grass-covered flanks exude an almost gentle elegance even from a distance. Like a green queen, it stands between rock and sky, lending the wild mountain world an unexpected grace.
To the left, the Schneck watches over the mountain range, clearly outlined against the blue of the sky, whilst behind it the rugged forms of the Allgäu Alps appear in ever-changing lines and contours. Towering above it all is the Hochvogel, mighty, majestic and timeless. Its rocky summit seems to touch the clouds and speaks of the forces that have shaped this landscape over millions of years.
On the right, the Kleine Wilde completes the panorama with its striking silhouette. Together, the peaks form a stage of stone upon which light and shadow ceaselessly perform their spectacle. The deeply indented ridges and rocky cliffs in the foreground lend the scene additional depth and make the mountains appear like the waves of an ancient, frozen sea.
In this clear expanse of the Allgäu, time loses its meaning. All that remains is the silence, the light and the awe-inspiring beauty of a landscape that captivates the gaze and allows the soul to find peace for a moment.
