What do you see in the artwork?
The photo captures a picturesque view of Amsterdam's iconic canal-side buildings, which are famous for their narrow, tall, and colorful facades. These buildings, lined up along the canal, create a beautiful and timeless skyline. In the background, the sky is softly lit, hinting at late afternoon light, casting a gentle glow over the scene.
What was your inspiration for this artwork?
The inspiration for this image comes from the charm of Amsterdam itself, a city known for its rich history, artistic heritage, and distinct architecture. I’ve always been fascinated by the way the old buildings line the canals, standing as reminders of the city's past.
What atmosphere are you trying to create?
With this photo, I aimed to create a feeling of peacefulness and nostalgia, evoking a sense of calm as if you’re walking along the canal, taking in the beauty and tranquility of the city.
Did you use a special technique?
Yes, the photo was shot using a Canon R7 with a Canon 100-400mm lens, at a focal length of 350mm. This telephoto zoom allowed me to compress the perspective, making the buildings appear closer together and more layered, which emphasizes their height and architectural intricacies. The relatively fast shutter speed of 1/400 sec helped capture the details crisply, while the aperture of f/5.6 allowed enough depth of field to focus on the buildings without losing too much background blur, keeping the image sharp but also slightly soft in the background to maintain focus on the foreground. I wanted to achieve a balance between detail and softness, which helps create a dreamy, nostalgic mood.
Making photographs always was my fashion, my favourite style is earthy tones, dreamy backgrounds. If you are interested for more of my photos or for a photoshoot send me a message in barka.alexandra2@gmail.com.. Read more…
