About ‘The bridge over the Oosterschelde’ by Gerry van Roosmalen
The original name when the bridge was built in 1965 was the Oosterscheldebrug. The 5022-meter-long structure was later named Zeelandbrug. Construction began on May 29, 1962. Until 1972 this was the longest bridge in Europe. In 1972, that record was broken by the Öland Bridge in Sweden, which was 6070 meters long.
