Africa's Big five on the globe, with universe background. The Big five consists of the Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and Rhinoceros. The origin of the term 'Big Five' or 'Big 5' dates back to the 19th and early 20th centuries, in the heyday when big game hunting was still in full swing in Africa.
Hunters used the term Big 5 to refer to those five animals that were not so much the biggest animals to hunt, but especially the most dangerous and troublesome ones. Nowadays, people still hunt in Africa, but the term Big 5 is most often used by tourists who go hunting with their camera to capture the animals on film. So shoot with your camera, thankfully! All photos of the animals, were taken by me in South Africa.
