The last thing you expect when visiting a Dutch island is to find a dark forest with gorgeous gnarly oak trees, yet this was exactly what I found. I tried hard to resist photographing this, because these days I am not very fond of photographing paths and I was there to photograph the coast and not yet again forests ;) But then fog started rolling in ; dark and moody fog giving this an eerie appearance and the little oak trees on the right caught the light and I could not resist any longer. Autumn was setting in and some leaves were already changing colours and this gave it a very surreal atmosphere.
Ellen Borggreve is a landscape photographer and author of Woodscapes and Praxisbuch Wälder fotografieren, among others. She was born and raised in the woods of the Veluwe where her love for trees originated. Besides forests she also likes to photograph Dutch coastal scenes.
