A beautiful evening shot of the Stationsweg in 's-Hertogenbosch, or Den Bosch, overlooking the Dragon Fountain. In the background are some beautiful historic buildings to see the cars that drove around the dragon in beautiful light stripes.
The statue was placed in 1903 and was part of a competition that was organized by the municipality. Jonkheer Bosch van Drakesteijn, Queen's Commissioner in North Brabant from 1856 until his death in 1894, had bequeathed a bequest of 10,000 guilders to the city of 's-Hertogenbosch to erect a memorial to his twin daughters, who had died in 1881 at the age of 17. The statue was originally intended to stand in front of the station, but it was placed slightly further east, in the direction of the city centre.
A competition was held. The De Leeuw brothers from Nijmegen won it, but the Dragon was not made to their design. Jules Dony, an architect from 't Zand, was commissioned to make a design for the dragon fountain. The dragon and the small dragons were manufactured by the firm of F.W. Braat in Delft. The pedestal was made by the firm of N. Glaudemans, a stone mason.
