I made this image from above as sunset light moved across the entrance to the Grand Canal and the dome of Santa Maria della Salute. The lagoon opened wide and the small wakes stitched lines that showed how the city breathes through water. I wanted the picture to feel oriented and open, a map drawn by light.
A careful aperture carried detail from the foreground roofs to the far islands, and a steady support kept the frame clean. Look for rooflines that catch a warm edge, a quiet ferry line near the horizon, and the way the dome sits like a calm anchor between water and sky. Color is natural and measured for easy placement in contemporary spaces.
The mood I wanted is thoughtful and bright. For me this view is about Venice in context, the meeting of city and lagoon that explains its character in a single glance.
