Sunset over Lake Titicaca, Peru.
Lake Titicaca is located on the border of Peru and Bolivia. It is over 8000 km² in size and is about 3800 meters above sea level. This makes it the highest navigable lake in the world. The indigenous Uros and Aymara tribes have lived on and around Lake Titicaca for centuries. They live in homemade wicker houses on the various islands created in the lake. Nowadays they live off tourism. You can visit the islands. There are also islands where you can spend the night at the locals, a fun experience.
This picture was taken from the island of Amantani.
The highest point, the summit of Mount Llacastiti is 4150 m, i.e. 340 m above the level of Lake Titicaca.
