About ‘Summer in Tuscany’ by Kees van den Burg

Summer in Tuscany on a misty Sunday morning inspired by Camille Pissarro.

Tuscany's landscape is characterised by rolling hills covered with vineyards, olive groves and cypress trees. Picturesque medieval towns and villages crowned with terracotta roofs are scattered across the hilly landscape. Old walled cities such as Florence, Siena, and Lucca are cultural gems with beautiful architecture, art and history. The region is also characterised by its rustic farmhouses, known as "agriturismi", where visitors can enjoy local dishes and wines amid breathtaking landscapes.

Camille Pissarro was an influential French painter who played an important role in the development of Impressionism. His work includes a wide range of landscapes, cityscapes, and peasant life, painted with vibrant colours and a distinctive brushstroke.

Pissarro was interested in capturing everyday life in the countryside and the city. He often painted peasants working in the fields, market scenes, and rustic rural life. His interest in nature and changing light conditions led him to paint landscapes in different seasons and weather conditions.
