Still life with hare and other hunting spoils, Jan Weenix, 1697 oil on canvas, h 114.5cm × w 96cm.
Weenix placed this luxurious hunting still life in the park of a country estate. He used his finest brushes for the hare's soft hair and the partridge's hard wings. On the right are a hunting horn and a bag. The texture of the moss in the foreground was achieved by covering the wet paint with wood or paper and removing it immediately.
