About ‘Silence at Wulfener Cliff’ by Friedhelm Peters

This photograph captures the cliffs at Wulfener Hals in a moment of perfect, almost reverent clarity. The top edge of the cliff is bathed in a luminous gold by the low-hanging sun, whilst the waters of the Baltic Sea lie calm and smooth in gentle shades of blue and turquoise. The fine textures and small cavities in the cliff face are clearly visible in this photograph – they are the silent witnesses to a dynamic coastal landscape.
The inspiration for this image was the special atmosphere of a solitary March day. There is a deep silence that is almost tangible. One feels a sense of awe for this place, which will soon come back to life. The nesting cavities of the sand martin colony are still empty; the birds are still on their journey back from the south to the Baltic Sea. This image captures precisely this fleeting moment of anticipation: the air is still wintry and cool, yet the golden light already promises the coming warmth and spring. It is pure, unadulterated holiday spirit for those who know the island and love the secluded side of Fehmarn.
The calm lines and clear horizon give this image a very modern and uncluttered feel. Care has been taken to bring out the natural brilliance and fine details of the cliffs without disrupting the minimalist character. In an interior setting, this piece acts as a window onto the vast Baltic Sea. It brings a calming, hopeful energy to any room – a daily anchor point that awakens anticipation for the reawakening of nature or the next Baltic Sea holiday.
