About ‘Silence at Sea’ by Jan Brons

I just love Black and White photography and this subject fits it perfectly as it is if I am traveling back to the last century.

This serene photograph captures an idyllic moment on the open sea. An old sailing freighter, with its weathered hull and worn sails, appears tranquil and at peace. A foresail hangs loose above the bowsprit, partially secured by a netting below it, suggesting a gentle pause in activity.

Above this scene soars a seagull, its wings spread wide as if embracing the freedom of flight. The cloudy sky in the background provides a soft backdrop to the peaceful atmosphere, with grey tones and wispy clouds adding depth to the image.

The black and white photography style lends a timeless quality to the photograph, allowing the viewer's imagination to fill in any details that may have been lost over time. As we gaze upon this moment frozen in time, we are reminded of the beauty and simplicity of life at sea.
