To the north of the Marmolata, the highest mountain in the Dolomites, and to the east of the Sassolungo, is the Sella Group, a plateau-shaped massif in the Dolomites. The mountain group was mentioned as early as the 18th century as 'Sallei' in Peter Anich and Blasius Hueber's 'Atlas Tyrolensis'.
