Tips for use

About ‘Scottish Highland Cattle in Lentevreugd’ by Joy of Light Photography

In the open landscapes of Lentevreugd — a small but remarkable nature reserve on the edge of Wassenaar — Scottish Highland cattle graze among waving grasses and reeds. With their impressive horns and shaggy coats, they look rugged, yet they are surprisingly calm and gentle by nature.

These cattle play an important role in nature management. By grazing selectively, they help maintain a varied and open terrain. This creates a patchwork of grasslands, shrubs, and wetlands that supports a wide range of plant and animal life. Birds such as the bluethroat, reed warbler, and even the spoonbill are regularly spotted here, thriving in the habitat shaped by these natural grazers.

Their presence not only benefits biodiversity, but also enriches the visitor’s experience. Encountering them on a walk offers a glimpse of wild nature close to home — calm, powerful, and in harmony with their surroundings.
