Nebraska is known for its flat, agricultural landscape. In the northwest of the state, the area around Scots Bluff is a particular anomaly in this landscape. Eroded sandstone rock formations here mark the otherwise flat landscape. Combined with the summer storms that are common in this part of the United States, this sometimes makes for spectacular scenes.
Along Scots Bluff National Monument runs the Oregon Trail. The route used by settlers in the 18th century to head west from America's east coast to settle there.
