The ship glides slowly along the North Sea Canal,
heading for the locks,
towards the wide, grey breath of the North Sea.
A freighter, battered,
scratches in the paint like scars from distant voyages.
The air heavy with oil and salt,
the harbour a backdrop of steel and silence.
