About "Safety and horizon"

by Stille Vertelling

About the artwork

At first glance, all you see is a collection of objects: a life jacket, a fishing reel, some rope and metal. But this is more than a still life. It is a snapshot of a journey, a story of safety and adventure set at sea.

The life jacket hangs ready, bent into a shape that has folded around a body many times before. The rope is knotted tightly, purposeful and lived-in. The fishmill rests for a moment, perhaps after a long day, perhaps in anticipation of what is to come. In the background, the horizon is blurred in focus, with an island outlined in soft tones.

There is a tension in this image. Not of danger, but of the unknown. Everything is ready to set sail, but the moment is silent, as if the sea is taking one more breath before revealing its stories again.

This picture invites you to look beyond the object itself. To feel the stories associated with travelling on water, with waiting, with looking at a horizon that always holds a promise.
