Yèvre-le-Châtel has about 30 houses arranged around the ruins of a former castle. The castle is strategically located on the former trade routes from Paris to Tours. It was already owned by the Abbey of Saint-Benoît-sur-Loire in the 10th century.
The village also has a ruined church. Contrary to what usually causes it to decay into a ruin (war or fire), this church was never finished due to lack of money and simply decayed by the ravages of time.
