Van Oldenbarneveltstraat in Rotterdam is a street that connects old and new. The western part, here portrayed from Westersingel, still looks more or less like it did before the Second World War, with a number of fine nineteenth century buildings.
Halfway down the street is the Fire Limit, which surrounds the area that was destroyed in the bombing of May 14, 1940. From that point Van Oldenbarneveltstraat runs into the modern post-war Rotterdam with its high-rise and large urban space. The street ends at Lijnbaan, and Koopgoot shopping malls and the Beurs World Trade Center, visible in the background.
The facade of café De Unie can just be seen on the far left. This tavern was originally located on the Coolsingel and was destroyed during the bombing. The facade on Westersingel is a replica from the eighties. In this way too, this digital painting connects old and new.
