Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.

About ‘Rotterdam Dynamics: The Swan in the Blue Evening’ by Anthony Malefijt

Capture the pure essence of Rotterdam with this striking shot of the Erasmus Bridge, affectionately known as ‘The Swan’. Photographed during the blue hour, the bridge exudes a serene coolness that contrasts beautifully with the warm lights of the city slowly coming to life.

What makes this photograph unique is its phenomenal depiction of movement. Whilst the bridge towers unperturbed above the Maas, you can see the dynamic streaks of light from a speeding water taxi on the water. This white trail in the river, combined with the subtle streaks of light from the traffic on the road surface, gives the image an unprecedented sense of speed and energy. In the background, the Kop van Zuid skyline forms an imposing backdrop, with the illuminated towers reflecting the city’s ambition.

This work is an ode to the connection formed by the Erasmus Bridge: not only between North and South, but also between tranquillity and movement. It is the perfect wall decoration for the modern minimalist, the proud Rotterdammer or the lover of sleek architecture and urban dynamism. An image that never grows tiresome and reveals a new detail of the Maasstad with every glance.

Anthony Malefijt

Rotterdam, Netherlands

Anthony Malefijt is a passionated hobby photographer based in Rotterdam. He spends most of his time capturing landscapes in his own unique way. He is a self taught photographer who was born and raised in the beautiful city Rotterdam in Holland. Photographing the city with his first Nikon D3200 DSLR is where the passion for photography started. Now a few years later (and cameras, haha) it's not only cities anymore. Landscape photography is the main focus at this moment.
