It is the first station reopened after a series of major innovations. The rebuilding of Rotterdam Central began in 2004.
The old station was taken completely overhauled, to make a whole new drive space. There is a walkway that connects the sixteen tracks, a passenger passage of almost 50 meters wide, and the roof is equipped with solar panels.
Daily pass approximately 110,000 passengers the station. It is expected that this figure will increase to 323,000 visitors per day in 2025.

The new station is called by many of Rotterdam 'Station Salon', because the station is similar to the aluminum container in which the popular hairdresser chips (fries with kebab meat) is served.
