Boompjes (little trees) is the quay along the river Nieuwe Maas near the center of Rotterdam. The name originated from a double row of linden trees which was planted along the river in 1615 as part of the Water City, Rotterdam's first urban expansion.
Since then, the name Boompjes remained in use with the exception of a few years during the French period, when it was briefly called Quai Napoléon.
Nowadays along the quay are mainly high residential and office buildings. We see the Boompjes here in the early morning from the Noordereiland on the other side of the river.
