Piazza Navona is one of the most beautiful and best-known squares in the centre of Rome. Emperor Domitian had this square laid out in its striking elongated shape in 86 AD.
The Neptune Fountain at the northern end of Piazza Navona (like its southern counterpart) was originally designed by Giacomo Della Porta, while the figures were created by Gregorio Zappala and Antonio della Bitta. The central figure is Neptune fighting a sea monster, surrounded by two naiads and two sea horses.
