The languid south of France. Warm in the sun, colors so bitten out by the heat that they still. Softening. A world in faded pastel.
I know immediately that I am there when I see a window like this. The thick walls against the heat. A soft pinkish wall with blue, wooden shutters. Not only does the material try to keep out the sun but the powdery colors seem to contribute to that.
The grape that creeps into the picture is still too young, it doesn't give any shade yet. But in a year it will be so full and large that it will protect the window from the sun. A natural sunscreen that works in summer and lets light through in winter. Often not quite cut to size, making it difficult to close the shutters.
Southern France in a nutshell. Caught in a window in Millau, just before the sun makes the colors of the wall and the shutters disappear. Atmosphere in a simple image.
