Willem Writs, View of a bridge near the Rokin in Amsterdam, 1770
The Langebrug also known as the Donderbrug was a bridge in Amsterdam-Centre.
It was one of the first bridges in the city, if not the first according to Amstelodanum in 1937. It spanned the river Amstel, which is called Rokin here. It formed the connection between Langebrugsteeg (to which it gave its name) in the east and Taksteeg in the west. The bridge owes its name to the width of the Amstel here, its nickname to the fact that carts driving over the bridge made quite a noise.
Willem Writs, by profession watchmaker, mechanical engineer; made prints among other things, Amsterdam, Holland, Netherlands 1731 to 1786-10-06.
