Rat Motor front_HMS:There has been a long discussion about the definition of the motorcycle. Dictionaries and encyclopaedias go with the times, and when the steam engine was extinct, it was no longer considered a serious source of power. As a result, a motorcycle was usually defined as a two-wheeled vehicle with an internal combustion engine or a petrol engine. With the advent of diesel motorcycles and electric motorcycles, this definition no longer makes sense. It also does justice to the steam vélocipèdes that already existed in the 1960s. Depending on the definition used, there are three candidates for the "honour" to have built the first motorcycle: Michaux-Perreaux (somewhere between 1867 and 1869 and the most likely candidate), Sylvester Howard Roper (probably 1868 or 1869) and Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach, who built the Einspur with petrol engine in 1885.
