Pole 2 stands against the quay near the Groothoofdspoort in Dordrecht, which is the quay where three rivers meet: the Oude Maas, Merwede and Noord.
In the literature, the dating of its construction ranges from the late 14th century to around 1440-1450. The building has relatively thin walls and was therefore not intended as a heavy defence tower, but rather as a representative entrance to the city.
The pole is painted white but the underlying wood can still be seen at the top of the photo. The white paint seems to consist of several layers and has a lot of texture.
