Punakaiki New Zealand Punakaiki Pancake Rocks and Blowholes Walk. Panorama with a view southwards along the West Coast of the South Island. Pancake rocks are limestone formations caused when fragments of sealife solidified into hard and soft layers under varying pressures. Seismic activity has raised the rocks above sea level and slightly acidic rain and other weathering has led to the odd pancake shapes. Panorama
