For model year 1973 the Carrera RS (Renn-Sport) was released with a 2.7 litre engine and 210 hp. This was meant for racing but could also be used on the street. Everything possible was done to reduce the weight of the RS. The RS can be clearly recognised by its characteristic spoiler at the rear of the car, a so-called ducktail. The name Carrera was first used by Porsche in 1955, to commemorate a class victory in the 1953 Carrera Panamericana. Carrera is Spanish for "race".
