Ponte Vecchio, Florence early one morning

The Ponte Vecchio (Italian: old bridge), is a famous medieval bridge over the Arno River in Florence, Italy. On and near the bridge are shops. They are mostly jewellers. On an additional level above the bridge is the Corridoio Vasariano. This enclosed passage about a kilometre long was commissioned by Cosimo I de' Medici in 1565 and built by Giorgio Vasari. Its purpose was to provide members of the de' Medici family with a route between their palaces Palazzo Vecchio and Palazzo Pitti without having to go among the crowds.
